The area of Almería – Cabo de Gata – Nijar is one of the most virgin areas in Almería. In this natural park you find a lot of little fishing places into which tradition and habits are still alive and where it seems that time has stood still, it look as if they were post cards of the past.
Inland, the landscape is arid and desert-like and therefore it was used as scenery for several American western films that have been filmed in Almería during the 60's and the 70's. One of these films is Peter O'Toole's classic “Lawrence of Arabia”. Near to Tabernas you can visit the western villages of Minihollywood or Yuca City, the sceneries for films such as “For a fist full of dollars” and many other films.

The steep and rocky coast line of Almería Levante gives a special charm to its precious white washed fishing villages with their tranquillity.
Although Almería's visitor associates Almería directly with its beaches, this Andalusian province also possesses a very important natural reserve in the hinterland where you can enjoy very unique views. The west of Almería goes from the Sierra de Gador until the wide beaches of the Mediterranean. These white beaches and the bay of Almería are in contrast to the coast of Aguadulce. And the east coast is delimited by the natural park of Cabo de Gata – Nijar and the border of the province of Murcia. |

| The Alpujara |
| The Alpujarra is situated in the east of Andalusia, in between the provinces of Almería and Granada. It has an extension of 2.600 Km2 approximately. |
| |
It is a natural district with lots of personality, limited in the north by the Sierra Nevada, in which you can find the highest peak of the peninsular “The Mulhacén” and in the south by the Mediterranean Sea.
IIn the same territory you can find the Sierra de Gádor , the S ierra de Lújar and the S ierra de la Contraviesa . The marvellous landscape is formed by high mountains.
In the Alpujarra you can find very typical climate conditions with different temperatures. There are regions where it is cold and where there is snow, and in a few kilometres away this changes in warm Mediterranean temperatures. On the other sight its flora is very rich and counts with natural woods of very old oaks, pine woods, chestnuts and luxuriant poplars. |
| |
| As a consequence of this very varied landscape, lots of the fauna and flora from the Alpujarra (Granadina and Almeriense) belongs to the natural and national park of the Sierra Nevada. |

Berja is the capital of the Alpujarra, and however it is a very beautiful city, it is also a city with a high economical activity and therefore known as the commercial heart. In the early days it possessed a very important agriculture of grapes and mines but now the motor of the daily life is driven by the many greenhouses that are installed in the valley and in general in the whole municipality and even till Balanegra at the sea. Enix is the last village that belongs to the Alpujarra. This precious village is situated in the Sierra de Gádor and it is also very close to the capital of Almería. It's a typical andalousian village with white washed houses in the middle of green orchards that come down in terraces along the mountains. As every mountain village Enix also possesses its own source, and during Moorish times it had even 20 different sources. Enix is in the first place a beautiful village with a tortuous structure in which you confound the many streets with the flat roofs, it is very attractive and from everywhere around the village and from almost every corner in the village, you can enjoy the impressive views on the ravines and on the sea. One of these precious sites is the hanging garden of the children's park, which is considered for its situation as the most curious in the whole province. |
| |
For all the reasons that we have given before, you can say that the Alpujarra is situated at half the way in between the sea and the sky. |

This coast line is described as the area with the most tourism, as well for the biggest number of population and tourist centres as for its geographic situation. In its relief you find small soft lines that benefit the presence of the wide beaches, which are all communicated with each other and where the tourist can find a lot of different services at a short distance. That's why the new beaches of the Poniente of Almería have received a blue flag. In the district of Roquetas de Mar you can find the following beaches: La Romanilla, Urbanización Roquetas and Playa Serena; and in Adra you have San Nicolás- Levante and Poniente.

| The Levante |
The diverse landscape and its rough relief of the coast give a personal touch to the Levante of Almería and this is without doubts the most attractive thing for its visitors. This coast line goes from the Natural park of Cabo de Gata – Nijar until the border of the province of Murcia and offers the tourists wide sandy golden beaches and steep cliffs with little lonely coves. This orographie gives a special charm to all the fishing places such as Garrucha or Mojácar, which is situated white and spotless on the highs of the Mediterranean Sea.
The Levante possesses four blue flags, one in Vera , another in Garrucha and two in Carboneras , add to this the numerous virgin areas such as Playa de Los Muertos or Cala Cristal, which are for obvious reasons, the perfect scenery for the practice of nudism. Because of this reason they build a hotel in Vera that has a special zone for nudism, and where tourists of the whole of Europe come to.
Natural beauties such as las Islas de Terrenos or Isla Negra, both in Pulpí, or the natural park of Cabo de Gata-Níjar, give an idea of the tranquillity you can enjoy in this part of the province. And for those that like less calmness you can go to the golf courses of Cuevas del Almanzora , have a cup of tea in the harbour of Garrucha or practice sports such as underwater sports, water-ski or walking.
The coast of Mojácar is known for its diversity and its beauty and for its 17 km of beaches, which some of them are still virgin, and on which you have thousands of ways to enjoy the sun and the sea. |
